Checkmate

A single star shines in a darkened sky
Watching as time below it does fly
But its not participating, just standing by.

Looking down on everyone else’s cares
But never being one of theirs
Seeing their emotions, but never in them shares

Too far away to take part
Far too timid to try to start
Thus it remains set apart

Like when in a check without a move
Not a chance to get out of the groove
And no way to make one’s game improve.

When one’s surrounding pieces will fall
One’s king simply cannot stand tall
And he will accept his resting pall.

A king loses his crown
A star falls down
Without making a sound
